Youths killed monarch in Enugu community, suspect reveals

A suspect arrested for the murder of the traditional ruler of Isienu Amofu, in Nkerefi, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Peter Onuoha, has revealed that some youths in the community ganged up to kill the monarch.
The Igwe was killed when hoodlums invaded his palace on July 11.
A married couple, Ejike Uzor, and his wife, Evelyn Uzor, and another person, Daniel Ogbu, alias Choco, also died in the attack.
However, the suspect, Sunday Agbara, who was arrested by the Enugu State Police Command on July 30, had confessed that some youths “organised” to kill the royal father over alleged “human rights abuses” in the community.
Agbara, a mason by profession, alleged that the Igwe had killed several people in the community.
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the murder, Agbara said, “We were not happy with what the monarch was doing in our community.
“The monarch was violating human rights by killing people and throwing them in the river and also collecting peoples’ land by force in the community and if you opposed him, he would deal with you.
“Hence, we organised ourselves and visited him on that day as well as those supporting him.”
The suspect, who said he regretted his role in the attacks, added that he was not the one that killed the royal father.
“Two shots were fired on that day but not by me, I only went there with cutlass although I never knew that it would have resulted into this kind of situation.
“I am truly sorry about the whole thing and I also regret the act,” he added.
It was gathered that operatives of the homicide section of the state criminal intelligence and investigations department apprehended Agbara at Ebu village in Illah, Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State.
Police spokesman, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the police had been on the trail of Agbara and his accomplices, who are still at large.
He explained that about five other suspects are still on the run.
Amaraizu assured that the other suspects, who, like Agbara, are all natives of the community, would be apprehended soon.
