Pupils in a computer room.
Weco
Systems International has donated Information and Communications
Technology equipment to selected primary schools in Lagos and Anambra
states.
These donations were made in memory of
the company’s late founding Chief Executive Officer, Uchenna Obidike,
and as part of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
initiatives.
The Chief Executive Officer of Weco
Systems International, Mr. Obinna Ekwonwa, said, “Weco Systems
International’s commitment to capacity development and nation building
is unwavering and this has made the donations to selected primary
schools in remote areas of Lagos and Anambra states necessary.”
He said, “We have discovered that the
pupils and students in remote areas seem to be left behind in the area
of ICT development as they hardly have access to this ICT equipment. We
therefore decided to consider the students at the grass roots in order
to give every child an opportunity to develop and globally compete with
their counterparts in this digital age.”
Ekwonwa
stated that the late Obidike loved to encourage and empower young
people, especially the less privileged, by investing in their lives to
make a difference in Nigeria.
While presenting the ICT equipment to the
Commissioner for Education in Anambra State, Prof. Kate Omehugha, Weco
said the gesture was aimed at giving every student in Anambra the
opportunity to be properly equipped digitally and compete with their
global counterparts.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of
Directors, Weco Systems, Mr. Godwin Obidike, said, “This gesture is
aimed at giving every student in Anambra the opportunity to be properly
equipped digitally and compete with their global counterparts. We want
to end the era of students just identifying computers only in pictures,
we want them to see it, learn and develop through it.”
While receiving the ICT equipment,
Omenugha, represented by Mrs. Adaobi Okonkwo, expressed gratitude on
behalf of the commissioner and the entire state.
She said, “This donation is timely as the
present administration is more than ever passionate about ICT
development of the state, especially the teachers who are saddled with
the responsibility of transferring knowledge to their students.
“It is quite encouraging and supportive
to see that Weco Systems has aligned with this passion by donating the
ICT equipment to selected schools in the state.”
