Review education policy, lawmaker tells FG

A House of Representatives member, Kehinde Odeneye, has said that there is the need to review the nation’s education policy.

The review, the lawmaker said, had become imperative in order to assess its relevance.

He made the call in Lagos at the Valedictory Service and Prize-Giving Day ceremony of the Unique Height School, Isheri-Magodo.

According to him, the current 6-3-3-4 education system needs a review to ascertain whether it is meeting its objectives.

He, therefore, urged the Federal Government to reappraise the policy with a view to ascertaining its impact on the country.

Insisting on the review, Odeneye said he had not seen its impact, especially with regard to the development of the nation’s technical education.

The lawmaker said, “When the idea was introduced, the authorities purchased many technical tools and equipped many schools. But till date, I have yet to see the impact of the policy on the country. This, of course, is why I think there is a need to review the initiative.”

Odeneye, who urged the graduating pupils to be good representatives of their alma mater, also advised their parents to monitor them as they seek to go to higher school.

The principal of the school, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olatubode, counselled the pupils on how to lead a successful life.

She said, “To be successful is to shine for excellence. To achieve this, you need to work hard always. Successful people improve one per cent in 1,000 different areas and that is the key to success in life. Successful people encounter heart-breaking obstacles before triumphing. However, this struggle brings strength. So, as you seek progress in life, you need to persevere in all that you do.”

The Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher-Association, Mrs. Helen Irumundomon, hailed the school for laying a good foundation for the pupils.

She particularly advised the graduating pupils to hold dearly all the good things they had learnt from the school.

Speaking on “Making the Journey to the Next Level”, Dr. Bitrus Musa urged the pupils to seek to imbibe the good thing that will help lift humanity to greater heights.

Musa added, “You can’t keep doing things in the same way and expect change. Make the necessary growth adjustment that will take you to the next level. There must be a paradigm shift, you must grow beyond the level of your previous season.

The next level requires new leadership mindsets, and you have to begin to visualise what it takes to be in a higher institution.”
